Goal of the event:
The specific goal of the event was show and feel each one of the erasmus how to dinner if you imagine be a blind person or any having visual disabilities.
Short description of the event:
On March 23rd, 2017, Erasmus Student Network Sarajevo marked one of ESN's International long-term projects called ExchangeAbility.
Every year, in March there is the ExchangeAbility Week, dedicated to promotion and raising awareness on mobility and acceptance of students and youth with disabilities. ESN Sarajevo marked the EA Week with an event dubbed under the name „Blind Dinner“ . The ESNers stayed most of the time without the blindfolds to help the international students. They were blindfolded at the restaurant entrance and guided inside. They were asked during the dinner to identify what they were eating.
The ExcangeAbility Week is a very important part of main ESN activities, as well as a big part of the Erasmus+ program. Showing empathy is something that is very important, and that is something that we all learned during this dinner.
How did your event go?:
During the event, more than 20 students currently on exchange in Sarajevo have participated. They tried to put themselves in the place of persons with various disabilities, such as blind and handicapped persons. They tried eating Bosnian pie blindfolded, with lights off, and with a knife and fork. It wasn't allowed for them to eat with hands, and students have realized that it is very a difficult job! Additionally, they had a chance to taste the food from a different perspective, which in turn has made them more tolerant and understanding to persons with different kinds of disabilities, which is actually one of the aims of the Erasmus+ program as well.
ESN volunteers helped prepare food for exchange students, and act as supervisors during the dinner.
