Goal of the event:
The goal of this activity was to celebrate the International Day of Forests in cooperation with an institution. To do so, the ESNers, the Erasmus and the users of this institution planted mulberries together in the APPDACDM property.
Short description of the event:
"Erasmus Forest with APPDACDM" was an activity organized in cooperation with the institution APPDACDM. The president of this institution and the police commissioner were also present in this activity.
The Portuguese Association of Parents and Friends of the Mentally Disabled Citizen (APPACDM) of Castelo Branco is a Private Non-Profit Social Solidarity Institution (IPSS) which purpose is promoting educational, cultural, professional and rehabilitation / habilitation means for children, young people and adults with Mental Disabilities.
The purpose of this activity was to celebrate the International Day of Forests. To do so, the ESNers, the Erasmus and the users of this institution planted mulberries together in the APPDACDM property.
The reason why we planted this special tree is because the institution has in it's property a maternity for silkworms and a museum of silk.
Once silkworms feed on mulberries' leafs, the best way to benefit their institution and, at the same time, celebrate the International Day of Forests was by planting trees that would provide the food that their silkworms need - mulberries.
There was a lot of interaction between all the people present, not only by planting the trees together but also by speaking in different languages, once there were some people who could speak many languages.
We were all very happy to know that the different nationalities were not a communication problem - on the contrary - and a very good partnership was created with APPDACDM.
