Goal of the event:
First of all with language cafe event we wanted to break the barriers between students. Therefore we even tried to teach each other basic sign language movements. Such as; hello, how are you? thank you, yes-no. Our main goal with Language Cafe event was promote mobility for students with disabilities as well as raise the awareness in the local community. We tried to provide opportunities for students with disabilities to actively participate in student life.
Short description of the event:
ESN Hasselt organized second timethe Language Cafe event during the spring ExchangeAbility Week in 2017. Since it was ExchangeAbility project we usually try to change the concept of the language cafe. First of all, we divided the participants in different language groups. Such as; English, German, French, Dutch, Spanish, Turkish and of course basic sign language. We distributed them different types of disability topics to talk about in different languages.
Aferwards, they had opportunity to talk about their experiences and advise each other how might we support these students who has disabilities. At the end of the our event we also tried to provide them relevant information about the project and how can we encourage the students with disabilities to go on exchange.
How did your event go?:
Briefly, the ExchangeAbility event was one of the best event of the semester. During the event we raised the awareness and promoted the mobility for students with disabilities. We were happy to hear about the interest of students to support disabled students at their universities.
